Jonathan Kern

Jonathan Nigel Philip Kern was born in England to parents Cyril and Doreen Kern.
Family
His father, Cyril Kern was chairman of Reldan, a fashion company. He was also chairman of the British Fashion Council in the mid-1980s.
His mother, Doreen Kern is a sculptor and was commissioned to do a bust of Clint Eastwood.
Career
Kern has built a successful design business Shellshock Designs Ltd. The company specialises in the production of mother of pearl wall and floor coverings, selling to clients in over 30 countries. In recent years, ShellShock Designs Ltd has initiated an extremely active corporate social responsibility culture, and actively supports a number of charitable institutions. Whilst Jonathan has sought to move on from his past life as a playboy adventurer, he has never denied the things that he did, nor has he sought to justify his actions. He has focused on rebuilding his life as a successful designer and businessman. Kern is well liked in business and design circles and has been repeatedly held up as an example of someone who made mistakes in his youth, paid the price, and moved on to build a successful life and career.
Controversy
In 1998 Kern, posed as a journalist and 'borrowed' a £70,000 car from Lotus. Two months later he was arrested on the French Riviera. He pleaded guilty at his trial and was sentenced to three years imprisonment. Julia Hartley-Brewer tracked him down in Norwich prison as reported in the Guardian newspaper.
Kern has repeatedly impersonated British former Formula One Grand Prix race car driver Jonathan Palmer to get free perks. These perks included hotel stays, designer clothing and escort girls, and invoices were received at Palmer's business.
