Mark "Andrew" Ashley-Hacker (born 8 December 1968) is aiming to be the Conservative Party prospective parliamentary candidate for the Esher & Walton constituency in Surrey, England. He has put his name forward for election in an Open Primary, a pioneering parliamentary selection initiative in the UK offering ‘whole community choice.’ Living locally within the constituency with his wife Heidi and five-year old son, Mark has been active within the Surrey community for more than 20 years and is currently Deputy Chairman (Political) of Esher and Walton conservatives. Mark was educated in Ipswich, then at the University of Reading where he gained a BA Hons in Economics & Accountancy. He later completed and MBA at Cranfield School of Management. His career has centred on business development and project management roles in the telecommunications industry - a 19-year track record of success with multi-million pound projects and co-ordination of multi-disciplinary and international teams. Since October 2000, he has been Head of Programme Management for Inmarsat plc, a FTSE 100 company. Until his departure in the Summer of 2009, so that he could concentrate on his political career. He became the youngest magistrate in the country when appointed in 1997 and has become a senior magistrate sitting in Surrey for more than 11 years. He now sits as Bench Chairman for Adult and Youth courts while also mentoring, training and appraising new magistrates. Mark is a long-standing charity trustee and supporter of international youth and education projects. In 2000 he raised £30,000 for charity by running the London Marathon with five colleagues - dressed as a giant centipede! Political Career Mark’s work as a magistrate created an interest in shaping and improving the community for all local residents, and he became involved in local politics. He is currently Deputy Chairman, Esher & Walton Conservatives and has been Chairman, Weston Green & Dittons Conservatives since June 2007. While personally contesting his local Weston Green ward in the 2007 and 2008 local elections, he has also actively supported national election campaigns including Boris Johnson (London Mayor), Crewe/Nantwich, Henley and Norwich North. Mark has been an active participant and speaker at Conservative Party Conferences since 2007. Community & Charitable Work In 2005, Mark was invited to meet the Queen for his contribution to business and local community work. He was the youngest magistrate in England when appointed in 1997 and has become a senior magistrate sitting in Surrey for more than 11 years. He is Chairman of the North Surrey bench and the Surrey representative to the UK Magistrates Association, which helps shape policy/sentencing guidelines. Mark is a Founding Trustee and Company Secretary of the AIESEC UK foundation (since Nov 2000) - part of an international youth charity that provides education and international work experience for young people. In 2005, he jointly led a team that raised more than £50,000. He was a member of MP Andrew Mitchell’s volunteer Umubano Project in Rwanda (2008) and Sierra Leone (2009). Mark provided expertise to the Ministry of Justice, local charities and law schools in both countries as well as supporting both projects with IT skills. Since 2006 he has been coordinator for Weston Green Neighbourhood Watch.
