Mohammed Yousuf Miah (born 1976), is a senior Management Consultant of Bangladeshi origin by profession specialising in organisational change and management reviews, and a former local Conservative councillor in Northamptonshire. Personal Life Born in the village of Moyeen Pur, Chhatak, Bangladesh in 1976, Yousuf is the eldest son and one of six children of the late Alhaj Sazzad Miah who passed away in 1998. He has lived in Northampton with his family since arriving in the UK in 1986. He is married to Nazia Matin, a senior policy maker with a leading London authority. Academic Achievements He spent his yearly years in Bangladesh studying at the Madrasah of Allama Qiblah Fultali Saheb (R.A.) where he memorised 10 chapters of the Qur'an. He arrived in the UK aged 10 and studied at local schools and colleges in Northampton before going on to study Public Policy and Management Public Administration at University of Leicester graduating in 1999. In 2004 he undertook a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from Durham University and then won a place on a Leadership programme at Christ Church, Oxford University in 2006. Political Career Politics and progress in public life has dominated much of his focus. He joined the Conservatives in 1998 and has held a number of high profile posts including contesting as a prospective Parliamentary candidate for General Elections 2005. He served as Chairman of the Northampton Conservatives between 2003-06. He was elected to Northampton Borough Council in 2003 and served as the Cabinet Minister for Housing until Northampton Council election, 2007. Business Career He joined Parliament as a researcher, and then worked in corporate hospitality, community development and as a fundraising consultant. He co-founded MiahMcMahon, a training and management consultancy in 2004 until 2010 when he became a principal consultant for Hamptons CRD. He is also the founder/Director of FinePublications GB. Community Contributions He has been involved in the community and served various organisations in a whole host of capacities. He served as a member of the Northamptonshire Police Authority Custody Visitor scheme for over 5 years until 2006 and Chaired the Northampton (SRB6) Management Committee between 2003-2004. He held the governorship of two schools including Unity College Northampton and Rectory Farm Primary until 2007. In addition to holding voluntary posts for MIND (mental health charity) and Diabetes UK he has and continues to raise thousands of pounds for good causes in the UK and abroad. He supports numerous charities in Bangladesh including a school and orphanage. He was one of the founding members of the Northamptonshire Faith Forum after 9/11 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Northamptonshire Muslim Council, an organisation which works with and supports over 10,000 Muslims. He has been committed to Northampton’s Bangladeshi community. He spearheaded the drive to establish a purpose built centre for the community and in 2003, raised in excess of £1 million to build the Gateway Centre. As Chairman, he worked with his team to complete the £1 million extension. In 2008 the Gateway Centre won the Channel S 'Best Community Organisation in the UK' Award. He is the Ex-Chairman of the Northampton Bangladeshi Association. In 2005 he was awarded the Northamptonshire Police Award for services to the community in 2005. He was recognised by the Local Government Association as one of the ‘Top 20 Councillors’ in the country in 2006. He was awarded the Channel S ‘Contributions to the Community Award’ in 2008. Interests He is a keen sportsman plays tennis and watches cricket and football and is a season ticket holder at Liverpool F.C. He also a keen writer and has kept a diary since he became involved in politics in 1998 and currently writing two fact-based novels. He kept a full video diary of his election campaign in 2005, extracts of which have been used for various documentaries in the UK, Bangladesh and in Japan. Other Activities He regularly contributes to local and national media including the Bengali and Asian media and has presented current affairs programmes on various Asian satellite television channels.
