Joey began performing as a child, landing acting roles in stage productions and print modeling. Throughout his early childhood he studied piano, acting, dance, violin and classical voice. He studied classical voice in New York City with Marko Lampas, a graduate of the Juilliard School and a student of the world-renowned Maria Callas. He began his acting career starring in productions of Les Miserables, The Music Man, and Cinderella in school and through regional theatre productions.
He signed with the Carson-Adler Agency in 2006 after meeting with famed talent agent Nancy Carson. Carson is responsible for launching the careers of child stars Britney Spears and Matt Damon. Shortly after he began working with Grammy-Award Winning producer Paul Avgerinos and feelin' Jake Records on his debut EP album Superstar. The title track garned global attention and peaked in the top 10 on radio stations in Canada, Australia and internet radio in the United States. In 2006 Joey signed with Columbia Records but due to a struggle over what genre of music he would record and perform, Joey was dropped from Columbia after only being signed for a few months. He performed on several TV shows including Better CT TV show and CT Style. His next EP Album Mannequin was Joey's response to critics' statements that Joey's music was too provocative for his age. The album lyrics plays with the ideas of sex, violence, drugs and a wild child attitude. Joey and his management agreed on changing Joey's stage name to Joey Monaca. After performing a club tour throughout NYC, Connecticut and New Jersey Joey bought his way out of his management contract and eventually parted ways. Though the album was not highly acclaimed Joey received positive reviews from critics. Stars2come.com wrote "His voice, talent and charisma will take him many great places in his career",
Joey briefly attended Rumsey Hall Boarding School but later graduated from Pomperaug High School in Southbury, CT on June 2011 and went on to study music business and management at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
