Jeff Allen

Jeff Allen (born June 12, 1987 in Washington, D.C.) is the starting power forward for the Virginia Tech Hokies basketball team. Allen, also known as the "Big Donut" for wearing number zero, enjoyed an impressive freshman campaign at Virginia Tech.
High School
Jeff Allen played basketball at DeMatha High School during his sophomore and junior years. Allen was named Team MVP and was an Honorable Mention Washington Post All-Metro player as a junior. Allen played his senior season at Oak Hill Academy. He averaged 14.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, and shot 63.8% from the field. Oak Hill went 40-1 and was ranked 2nd nationally by USA today. As a postgraduate, Allen played at Hargrave Military Academy. There, Allen averaged 21 points, 6.1 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Allen was also rated the number one prep player in the country at Hargrave.
College
Freshman Year
As a freshman, Jeff Allen was named to the All-ACC Freshman team and Honorable Mention All-ACC Defensive team. Allen was also named ACC freshman of the week twice. Allen ended the season with averages of 11.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game, appearing in 33 of the Hokies 35 games. During his freshman season, Allen set the Virginia Tech record for steals by a freshman (69). Also, Allen recorded the second highest rebound total (251) for a freshman at Virginia Tech. He was suspended for two games due to bumping into a referee after fouling out while playing against Georgia Tech.
Sophomore Year
Allen and the Hokies have high hopes for the 2008-2009 Season. The Hokies were ranked 35th in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll. Allen also is a strong candidate for All-ACC honors. He was suspended for the team's game against in-state rival Virginia after making an inappropriate gesture (showing the middle finger) while playing against the Maryland Terrapins.
