Jason A. Voss (born 1981) is an American musician and radio host. Not to be confused with Jason S. Voss (born 1963) the published Illustrator, Artist and Filmmaker. Voss has been an active participant in the Ann Arbor music scene since the late 1990s. Voss is a long-time DJ at the University of Michigan's WCBN freeform radio station. Aside from holding various positions of authority at the station (music director, program director, general manager, etc.), he has hosted a wide variety of shows, perhaps most notably hosting the Local Music Show. In 2001, Voss helped to found We're Twins Records, a CDR label, with fellow WCBN station members Ben Tausig, Kelly Szott, and Katie Linden. Voss has had several solo releases under his given name, including Arts & Crafts and Other Compositions (2004). He has also also recorded music under other aliases and has played major roles in many Ann Arbor bands. Voss' aliases include: * JAV * Lieutenant Disaster * Residential Tetanus. Voss has played a large part in such groups as: * And Spiders * Ever Will You Get There (with Justin Shay) * The New Sound of My Bossa Nova (also with Shay) * Production Bee * SLOVAK (on Stop-Eject Records) Voss contributed to Patrick Elkins's 2004 release The New Folk Sound of Patrick Elkins and has collaborated with MC Trashpedal and Jib Kidder's Sean Schuster-Craig, among many others in the Ann Arbor independent music community. In addition to playing and recording music, Voss has made contributions to the Ann Arbor music community through organizing and booking live shows, particularly at the Totally Awesome House where he, along with Patrick Elkins' Actual Birds and Penelope lived from 2004-2005, hosting dozens of small shows during this period. Voss was also responsible for the recording of the Ann Arbor band Detergents sole album. Voss's music under his given name is noteworthy for its humorous lyrics, simple song structure, and intermittent bodily noises, and has been described as "deliberately out of tune". Music released under the JAV alias is more experimental/avant-garde in nature. Voss currently lives in Pittsfield Charter Township and is a member of Melting Moments.
