Jarob Walsh

Jarob Walsh was a United States Army Reserve soldier. Jarob Walsh was assigned to the 724th Transportation Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom II.
Within the last ten miles of reaching their destination, over 200 Mahdi insurgents attacked the 26 vehicle convoy. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED or roadside bomb) disabled the vehicle and turned the truck onto its side. At this time, Walsh alleges that the Mahdi Army used child and unarmed civilians as human shields. Walsh and Stannard escaped and headed on foot toward BIAP. Enemy rounds struck Walsh in the foot.
Private First Class Jeremy Church returned to the ambush site with the First Cavalry with tanks. The Mahdi Army fled with many wounded and dead.
"When the smoke cleared, nine Americans lay dead, 17 were seriously wounded and two missing in action."
Among the dead were:
US Army Reserve
Private First Class Gregory Goodrich,
Sergeant Elmer C. Krause
KBR Drivers:
Tim Bell (presumed dead),
Steve Fisher,
Jack Montague,
Stephen Hulett,
Jeffrey Parker,
William Bradley (body recovered in 2005).
Among the missing were:
Thomas Hammill (captured and later escaped)
Keith Matthew Maupin (captured and executed whose remains were recovered 4 years later)
Walsh and 10 others were evacuated for medical treatment. Walsh received treatment at Landstuhl, Germany before going to Walter Reed Army Hospital near Washington DC.
