Sergeant First Class Luis R. La Luz is an American soldier, New York City police officer, amateur bodybuilder and former Mr. America bodybuilding champion. A 58-year-old veteran of the Vietnam War, he is now assigned to the 321st Sustainment Brigade, a Louisiana Army Reserve unit currently based in Iraq which provides command and control to combat troops. A member of the Army Reserves in New York City, he is stationed at Al Asad Airbase in Iraq. Sergeant La Luz was selected to promote physical fitness training in his unit by its command because of his extensive background in bodybuilding. The amateur bodybuilder, who started lifting weights when he was 12 years old, when he seen the bodybuilder Steve Reeves in the movies and read pamphlets of bodybuilding pioneer Dan Lurie at Lurie's gym in Brooklyn N.Y. and Atlas gym. La Luz a respectively natural bodybuilder AAU and NPC.
