Jake Binnall

Jake Binnall (born May 24, 1998) was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, a city in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. A graduate of Framingham High School, he is currently a Senator at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is currently the Chair of the Finance Committee. He was a 2016 Republican write-in candidate for Second Middlesex & Norfolk District of the Massachusetts State Senate.
Education
Binnall graduated from Framingham High School in 2016. At Framingham High School, Binnall served as the President of his Class, as well as the Vice President of the Framingham High School Drama Company. He also served on the Framingham School Committee as an appointed Student Representative. He then began undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is the youngest appointed member of the Framingham Community and Economic Development committee.
Throughout his schooling days, he constantly engaged himself in social actions. In middle school, he organized teams for the "Walk for Hunger" and raised funds to donate to "Project Bread". In High School, he organized volunteer opportunities at the local soup kitchen, lead numerous teams for the , among other things.
Binnall is the former chair, and founder, of the Teenage Republicans of Massachusetts and the former Vice Chair of the Teenage Republicans of New England. He served as Chair on the Youth in Philanthropy board through the Foundation for Metrowest. He was also active in the Framingham First Committee and the Framingham Community and Economic Development Committee.
Political Life
Binnall went into politics at quite a young age. He got involved in politics at the age of 14. He was a volunteer for former MA Gov. Romney's presidential campaign in 2012 as well as Senator Scott Brown's re-election campaign.
In 2014, Binnall was heavily involved in Gov. Baker's campaign, as well as Brian Herr's campaign for U.S. Senate, and the down-ballot campaigns. For much of 2015 and 2016, he campaigned for Ed McGrath and Janet Leombruno for Republican State Committee.
In February 2016, He decided to run for State Senate against Sen. Karen Spilka to give the people of his district a choice. He said he would be running as a Republican for state senator in the 2nd Middlesex and Norfolk District, the seat now held by state Sen. Karen Spilka who has held the position since 2005.
Binnall told the Framingham Patch he “believes that it is time for his generation to have a voice on Beacon Hill, and he is determined to be that voice.” His candidacy was historic, as he would be the youngest state senator in the country, if elected. (Petroni, 2016)
He, however, withdrew from the race after he did not receive the necessary write-in votes to appear on the general election ballot as 300 votes in the Sep. 8th primary was required.
Honours and awards
Binnall, due to his work in the political and philanthropic fields, has received numerous awards. His list of award includes (some may be missing):
# The President's Volunteer Service Award: Corporation for National & Community Service: By completing over 100 hours of community service in a year, Binnall received this award, as well as a letter from President Obama congratulating him for this award.
# Youth Activist Award (by the Republican Party of Massachusetts): Binnall was one of the first two recipients of this award. He received it for making strides within the Republican party at such a young age. Chairman Hughes recognized the first beneficiaries of the award, Jake Binnall and Caroline Dooley, for their work on various campaigns in the 2014 cycle.
