Bastrop County Young Republicans

The Bastrop County Young Republicans (BCYR) is a non-profit corporation and Political Action Committee based in Bastrop, Texas. The Bastrop County Young Republicans was founded by local political activist Jarrett A. Namken in March 2012. As of today, it is an organization that consists of nine members who comprise a board of directors. All members have local roots and come from various parts of Bastrop County. The BCYR strives to hold members who are highly educated and motivated towards the Republican cause. Of the nine, five of the members currently attend Texas A&M University. Other schools that are represented through the board members include Texas State University, University of Texas at Austin, Blinn College and Bastrop High School.
The BCYR is not associated with the Texas Young Republican Federation in any way. This decision was made by the founder at the organization's conception in order to allow for candidate endorsements to be made by the group throughout the year. The BCYR is currently involved with endorsing candidates, developing and carrying out community projects, as well as educating the common voter.
History
In the Spring of 2012, Bastrop County had no political organization that was controlled by young people in either party. At that point, Jarrett Namken had a vision to change that. First, he decided what the goals of the organization were to be and how he would go about reaching those goals. After gaining support from some colleagues, he filed the necessary paperwork to be recognized by the State of Texas as a non-profit organization. In addition to this designation, Namken also registered the organization under the Texas Ethics Commission which thereby granted it the status of a General Political Action Committee. According to numerous records produced by the Texas Ethics Commission in 2014, there exists no other PAC in Texas that is controlled by young voters in any County smaller than Bastrop.
Impact
In 2014, the BCYR donated 2,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry. At the end of the 2014 school year, the organization awarded one scholarship to a student at each of the four high schools in Bastrop County. Since the very beginning, the Bastrop County Young Republicans have been adamant about endorsing local, state, and federal candidates who run for office during the different elections. The BCYR has been receiving numerous donations from involved citizens in the county as well as from a few beyond its borders. These donations have been put to work and have greatly helped them continue to serve their community through education and community service.
