J.R. Rodriguez

J.R. Rodriguez(Born January 22, 1967, Ft. Gordon, GA.) J.R. Rodriguez is an American actor and director who lives in Chicago, IL and is Artistic Director of FACING SOUTH PRODUCTIONS.

J.R. was born to Juan Lopez Rodriguez of Gurabo, Puerto Rico and Juanita Mallard-Rodriguez of Wilmington, North Carolina.

After J.R.'s Father retired from The U.S. Army, the family moved to Wilmington, NC where he grew up. J.R. started performing at the age of 9. He was a member of the drama club at New Hanover High School in Wilmington and later attended East Carolina University where he studied vocal performance and acting, along side Nina Repeta(DAWSON'S CREEK). He was fortunate to study with such great acting coaches as Cedric Winchell and later Lou Criscuolo of MJM TALENT and Opera House Theatre Company. His first professional television job was a Sears commercial in which he was a dock worker in "The Newest Side of Sears". He has worked professionally up and down the east coast performing with many different theatre companies and a number of movies as well as voice over work. Some of J.R.'s movies include LOGGERHEADS, JUST LIKE THE SUN, BLACK KNIGHT, THE NIGHT FLYER and the up-coming BOLDEN! produced and directed by Chicago native Dan Pritzer.

J.R. moved to Chicago in the fall of 2006. Along with Chris Jarman and Philip J. Canzano, J.R. started a new production company, FACING SOUTH PRODUCTIONS. Chris Jarman and J.R. grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina and Philip J. Canzano went to college at The College of Charleston. With all three having ties to the south, the name seemed to fit.
