Hussein Talib

Hussain Talib was born in 1917 in Nasiriyah -south of Iraq.
His family was from the landowning class in Iraq; his father was a landowner in and mayor of Nasiriyah and a member of parliament.
His grandfather Haji Mohamed Ali Mohamed Saleh originally was living with his son, Haji Talib and his family in Baghdad. But for some political reasons at that time, he decided to leave Baghdad and move down south to Suq Al Shayookh, which is not too far from Nasyriah among his relatives. Following Nassar Pasha’s announcement, he decided to move to Nasyriah and there he built a large house for himself with an annex to receive guests during weekdays, as there were no hotels in town at that time. During the night, people visited him in the Majlis to have coffee and to smoke the Argheela. He also built two warehouses for storing various goods including wool, cooking oils tanks, and also some rooms as stores for Jewish merchants. After 1920, following King Faisal's first visit to Nasyriah, Haj Talib was elected as the Mayor of Nasyriah for 21 times while his eldest son Haji Kadhim was chosen by the British Petroleum Company in Basra to represent them in distributing all oil products including petrol, which was sent to Nasyriah from Basra with the "Al Muftia Oil Company" to be distributed to various towns surrounding Nasyriah.
Prof.Hussein Talib studied Medicine in Iraq and he achieved his fellowship as a surgeon from the Royal College of Surgery from 1948-1958, From November 1958 to June 1979 he was a member of the teaching surgical staff at the Medical School of Baghdad University.
During this period he was appointed and promoted the following:
*November 1958 - June 1962: Lecturer & Reader in Surgery
*June 1962 - April 1969: Assistant Professor in Surgery
*April 1969 - April 1971: Associate Professor in Surgery
*April 1971 - April 1980: Full Professor in Surgery
*April 1980 - Retired - 1997 Consultant in surgery, urology and oncology and operating in various private hospitals in Baghdad and UAE
He had the privileges to be elected in various committees and memberships whether at home or abroad, which are:
*Corresponding member of the British Urological Association. 1958
*Member of the American International College of Surgeons. 12 Sept. 1971.
*Member of the American International College of Angiology. May 1972
*Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, (ASCO) 1972
*Corresponding member of British Association of Surgical Oncology. June 1973.
*Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the British Oncology Journal. August 1974
*Member of the Medical Research Committee Medical School. Baghdad University.
*Member of the Selecting Committee for Primary Fellowship of England Applicant in the Medical School.
*Member of the Iraqi Cancer Society.
Prof. Hussein Talib currently lives in Abu Dhabi, UAE with his youngest daughter.
