Himatdan Gadhavi (born 1947) is currently Mayor of Gandhidham city which is one of the most vibrant city of India. Mr Himatdan is a senior lawyer of District court of Kutch. He has been a notary public also since 1999. He has been chairman and/or trustee of many non governmental organisations also. He has been associated with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since last 20 years. He is among the most senior BJP leaders of Gujarat. Early life and family Himatdan Ranmalji Gadhavi was born in Janan (Khadir) area of Kutch. Ranmalji Gadhavi was a farmer and was a registered Freedom Fighter during Quit India movement which was run by Mahatma Gandhi. They were six siblings. He got his primary schooling in a small village Dholavira about 9 km from his house, he used to go there by walking. After finishing primary education at home, he left home for higher education. He took his secondary and higher secondary education in Charada, dist Mehasana.He finished his graduation with physics from Uttar Gujarat University.He was one of the top 10 ranker in Uttar Gujarat University. He is married to Nirmala Ayachi and they have three children ( Janaki, Deval, Prahlad) and four grand children (Sinny, Ishana, Rohan and Anya) Education Following his school, Himatdan finished his graduation with physics then he finished his degree of law (LLB) from Gujarat University. Political career Himatdan was active in social services and politics since his adulthood. He was an active political party worker since he was in college. He was also General Secretary of Mansa college. In late 1970s when he moved to Gandhidham, he was one of the most active, influential and honest Union leaders in Kandla Port who were fighting for rights of Dock Labours. In late 1980s he became active in Hindu organisations. He became member of many NGO working for social and religious causes. In early 1990s he became member of BJP and started his political career with BJP. He became member of Gandhidham Municipality in 1996 1st time, since then he has been as a Councilor of Gandhidham. He became Mayor of Gandhidham in January 2001 1st time. He has become Mayor again since November 2005
