Tyrrell Le'Var Eiland (IP) (born April 18, 1977) is a candidate for Mayor of the City of New York. An Independent, if elected Tyrrell will become the youngest mayor in New York City's history. Early years Eiland never knew his father, who left when he was two years old. He was raised by his mother's family lead by his grandmother Rev Elrine Jones. Professional Eiland began working at the age of 12 for the Westchester Country Club as a golf caddy ISRAEL Professional NAACP Eiland joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) at an early age. He was involved in their youth chapter in New York and would later become more involved on a national level. While at Howard University, Eiland was appointed to re-organize the chapter on campus and in 1997 Bison Chapter of the NAACP was born. The Chapter worked closely with the National Office, then president Kwesi Mfume, and Board Chair Julian Bond to protest the confederate flags in South Carolina. Eiland was an intrugal part of the Supreme Court protest that brought awareness about the lack of court clerks who were minorities. He was featured at a press conference at the Supreme Court building with other chapter presidents, Kwesi Mfume, and Congressman Jessie Jackson,(D)IL. Eiland worked with other college chapters in the Washington, DC area to include George Washington University, University of Maryland at College Park, and American University. Rev. Jamal Bryant (Senior pastor of the Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore,MD) was his direct leader serving as the National Director of Youth and College Affiairs ay headquarters. Eiland continues to support the mission of the NAACP and plans on joining the Centenial Celebration this summer in New York City. Personal Eiland is single and has no children. It was said that Eiland was in a long term relationship with and engaged to a fellow classmate from Howard University, but it ended November 2008. Eiland is the oldest of seven children from his biological father and has two nieces. Religion Eiland is a conservative Jew, but currently belongs to a Reform synagogue in New York City Jewish. He was a member of Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel in Port Chester, NY as a young child, designed by famed architect Phillip Johnson. His time at Congregation KTI influenced his decision to become an architect and follow in Johnson's footsteps in creating beautiful worship spaces. Eiland and family later were members of Congregation Emanu-el of Westchester that boosted celebrity membership, like Joan Lunden. Eiland celebrated his Bar-mitzvah at the Kotel (Wailing Wall) in Jerusalem, Isael, but was never confirmed. Because part of his family were Christians, Eiland attended church as well. He volunteered at the Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church in Washington, DC. He assisted the senior pastors in Old Testament projects, hebrew literature and song presentation. Eiland also assisted the Macedonia Church of Pittsburgh as their young adult and college pastoral leader. He was noted for infusing programs from Hillel International (The foundation for Jewish Campus Life) into the life of the church's young adult ministry. Eiland is currently a member of Temple Emanu-el of New York City. 2009 Mayoral Campaign Eiland grew up in a Democratic Party member household and would later join the party when he became of age to vote. He later grew tired of the system was drawn to the need for a third party to balance the power in the country. While in college, Eiland began researching and learning about the third party system and began working with grassroot efforts to increase the number of young people in politics and the third party system.
