Hemachandra Wijeratne (also known as Hema Wijeratne, Lofty Wijeratne was Turkey's former in Sri Lanka. Early life and education Wijeratne was born to Walpola Mudalige George Hercules Wijeratne and Rosalind Maria Senanayake. His elder brother was former Cabinet Minister General Ranjan Wijeratne. He was educated at Nalanda College, Colombo. While at school he was a keen cricketer playing for Nalanda first XI team. Hema was a fellow of Chartered Insurance Institute of United Kingdom. Career Wijeratne began a career as a Tea taster, holding many high positions in the tea plantation sectors of Sri Lanka. Wijeratne was also the former Chairman of Colombo Tea Traders’ Association and a Director of Carson Cumberbatch & Company.
