Haiti organ harvesting describes the supposed or rumoured practice of rescuers in Haiti in the aftermath of the 2010 Haitian earthquake harvesting organs from fresh corpses for sale through illicit markets. This information was brought to light by Haitian prime minster, Jean-Max Bellerive in an exclusive interview with Christiane Amanpour and was reported in her blog hosted by CNN. Former member of the British parliament Jenny Tonge called for Israel to establish an inquiry in order to refute accusations that its medical teams in Haiti had harvested organs. She told the Jewish Chronicle that "To prevent allegations such as these - which have already been posted on You Tube - going any further, the IDF and the Israeli Medical Association should establish an independent inquiry immediately to clear the names of the team in Haiti." As a result of her comments, Nick Clegg removed Tonge from her position as health spokeswoman in the House of Lords.
