Health Libraries Wiki of Canada - HLWiki Canada
|
HLWiki Canada is a collaborative wiki project at the University of British Columbia. HLWIKI Canada is aimed at helping health librarians, physicians and patients stay current along three domains: health librarianship, social media and information technology. Where appropriate, entries are written from a Canadian point-of-view or context. At present, the wiki has over 500 pages and serves as a platform for an advisory of health librarians, medical students and student librarians. The wiki has adopted the license and is used by various bloggers and web watchers. Mission statement HLWIKI Canada is envisioned as a place where Canadian health librarians and health professionals can share information and collaborate on the writing of new topics. Where appropriate, each article will provide a section entitled the Canadian context. Librarian experts across Canada (and within CHLA/ABSC (Canada) should feel free to contribute to the wiki. The forum is an ideal place to evaluate new databases; discuss case studies in information retrieval; review health and library technologies and the latest thinking in academic and health facilities' accreditation; evidence-based practice, systematic reviews, qualitative research, teaching - and so on. Finally, Canadian perspectives are much appreciated, but by no means the only ones needed. We hope our American, British and Australian colleagues will provide input in order to give the wiki an international perspective. For information about navigating and editing, consult the User's Guide. Before editing, please read our editing policy, guidelines about how to write a great article, and how to wiki. All ns should be familiar with entries in the help section. Follow these guidelines to ensure that your entry will not be removed. Categories Health librarianship The health sciences librarianship pathfinder is a guide to major information sources in health sciences librarianship for Library and Information Science students, professional librarians and other interested individuals. Its purpose is to provide a starting point for reading materials that support the study of health libraries and health librarianship. It provides links to key journals and monographs, international associations, discussion groups and websites. Social media landscape The social media landscape is a complex and continually-evolving concept and it increasingly involves hundreds if not thousands of tools on the web. (For a quick view of the range of tools, see the directory). That said, the term social media refers to tools that enable social interaction and sharing of ideas, resources and digital objects with others. In 2010, these services are also known as Web 2.0 services and comprise text, images, audio and video; popular types of social media include blogs, podcasts, wikis, Twitter and location-based services such as FourSquare. In addition, these services are increasingly provided via mobiles and the iPhone4. Perhaps the most important aspect of the move to Web 2.0 tools and technologies is the ability to collaborate. Collaboration is a coordinated activity performed by members of a team in order to complete a project or reach a shared goal. There are three primary ways in which humans engage in communication: conversations, transactions, and collaborations. There is plenty of software that enables conversation - email, chat, social software and e-forums - and plenty of software for transactions - eBay, PayPal, internet banking, online shopping carts.
