Grassnews

Grassnews is "the media on the web that mimics the goals of traditional media outlets through an obvious attempt to engage individual users to gather or disseminate factual information, much like reporters do within the confines of traditional media". Such an example of grassnews would be the St. Louis Platform

A Grassnews Movement is the action by which a company or agency attempts to gather or disseminate factual information through the use of "grass news advocates", who act as reporters traditionally would within the confines of traditional media.

The term "Grassnews" was coined by Jason Vander Weele in 2008 in response to a panel discussion titled "Social Media and Social Networks: A Panel", which took place at Washington University in St. Louis on April 3rd, 2008.
