An infosuicide is a portmanteau of information technology and suicide. It refers to the act wherein an individual attempts to purge all of their online presence: usually in an attempt to regain their sense of privacy. Removal of websites, blogs, microblogs, photosharing sites, forum accounts. The term achieved increased prominence in late 2011, when software developer and author Mark Pilgrim took down several highly-regarded and open-licensed technical texts and online books in his "Dive into Mark" series. As of a week later, little is known about his reasons for doing this, although a rapid reaction by the web development community was to organise archive copies of his works.
