Topnuz

Topnuz takes his name from the union of the English words top (which means primary or higher) and nuz (which in the United States is a colloquial way of saying News). Topnuz is a news aggregator that checks automatically a lot of media news, to then publish those that have more impact on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn on his web site.
History
The creators, Daniel García Baena (product manager), José López Expósito (CTO) and Jesús Muñoz Medina, are three M.Sc. in Computer Science and Software Engineering, old students of the University of Jaén. Fermín Lucena-Muñoz (TTO officer of the University of Jaén) and Francisco Roca Rodríguez (PhD. in Mathematics from the University of Granada and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaén TIC) also collaborate in the project.
Topnuz pioneered the idea of selecting, for every moment, the news with the greatest impact on various social networks. Similar systems have been being adopted later by various news aggregators, as is for example the case of Digg. In this way, we got a news aggregator that not depends on shipments of links or subsequent valuations by users.
Topnuz started to develop in 2011 and was in testing phase until December 2012. This news aggregator pretends to ensure his impartiality and plurality through an automated operation and by tracking of all types of media, without paying attention to their ideology. Topnuz also publishes the most relevant news of Reddit and Menéame. The appearance of the web portal, which does not give greater importance to some news to others, also responds to the will of their creators in offer an impartial and pluralistic media.
Investors
In 2012, Geoversia S.L. received a investment capital by ENISA (Empresa Nacional de Innovación of the Ministerio de Industria, Energía y Turismo of Spain). The Universidad de Jaén also is collaborating in this project.
Operation
Topnuz organizes his news within a grid composed of equal boxes that contain them. Whenever a media publishes a news, Topnuz revises his relevance (adding the times that it has shared on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn ) and publishes it in his front page (the main page of the web site) if it turns out to have been very shared. The cover of Topnuz news are ordered from left to right in descending chronological order. Older news are automatically loaded as you go down the page.
This news aggregator also maintains sections where the most shared news are collected for different periods of time. Topnuz allows users to choose the themes that have news that will show on the front page, as well as the country they came from (some of the countries for which Topnuz offers in this last option are United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico and Argentina). Topnuz works in English and Spanish.
