Gliese 1279 is a K5 V class star located in the night sky at Right ascension 23h 09m 41s and declination −67° 44′ 00″ in the constellation of Indus. At a distance of 49.2 light Years (14.29 ± 3.14 pc) and an absolute magnitude of 7.39 this star has an apparent magnitude of 8.29 when viewed from earth. The star has a total Proper Motion of 0.380 yr, a mass of 9.90497e+29 kg and a surface temperature of 3500-5000°K. There are no known planetary companions. GJ 1279 is also known as HD 218511, HIP-114361, and cd -68° 2331, CP-68 3561 and LTT 9379
