Giulio De Nardo (24 January 1901 - 10 October 1975) was an Italian chess player. Biography In his youth Giulio De Nardo studied at the Polytechnic University of Turin, but because of his passion for chess, Giulio De Nardo had to abandon his studies in order to participate in tournaments. In 1923, Giulio De Nardo made his debut in a minor tournament of the Trieste chess festival and took 4th place. Then he won the Venezia Giulia regional chess championships several times. As the regional champion he was adopted by the Italian Chess Federation in the qualifying tournaments for Chess Olympiad in 1928. In the semifinals, he shared third place with Davide Marotti, and then in the final he shared fourth place again with Marotti. For this success Giulio De Nardo received the title of master and the right to represent Italy at the chess Olympiad. Giulio De Nardo played for Italy in the Chess Olympiad: * In 1928, at first reserve board in the 2nd Chess Olympiad in The Hague (+3, =5, -4). Then Giulio De Nardo began his banking career at the commercial bank Banca Commerciale Italiana and played chess only occasionally in team championships. In the 1950s Giulio De Nardo moved to work in Parma, where he remained until the end of his life. Giulio De Nardo was a close friend of the Italian chess player Enrico Paoli.
