George Ladas

George Ladas FRCS, FETCS completed his training in cardiothoracic and peripheral vascular surgery at Evangelismos Medical Centre in 1989, and was first appointed as consultant in thoracic surgery in January 1990 in Athens.
Background
Ladas joined the Royal Brompton Hospital's team in April 1994 and worked there as senior registrar in thoracic surgery until July 1997. He was appointed as thoracic surgeon to the Royal Brompton in December 1997.
He has given more than 40 lectures to National and International meetings and published 20 scientific papers on thoracic surgical topics in peer reviewed journals, and contributed to seven textbooks on thoracic surgery. He regularly reviews papers for scientific journals, including the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Thorax and Paediatric Pulmonology.
In 2010, Ladas began using the UK's first lung laser to operate on patients with secondary lung tumours, thereby reducing operating time and improving patients' recovery time and quality of life. He has been deemed a pioneer cardiothoracic surgeon because of his use of the machine in Britain and continues to use the machine to this day. Ladas is considered a world leader in cardiothoracic surgery and continues to operate with great success.
