Gary Ellenbogen was a computer consultant in Winoosky, Vermont who became active in the on-line community in 1993.The book How Can I Help? by Ram Dass has been reported as Ellenbogen's "guiding force" in helping on-line users resolve their computer problems, and Ellenbogen's advice to others giving on-line help is to recognize the voluntarily exposed by questions posed on-line, and to "try to be a host rather than an authority figure" In the mid 1990's, Gary Ellenbogen was one of 3 sysops at the CompuServe Netmanage Ecco Pro Forum and wrote in 1995 about Ecco Pro's synchronization features, a "must-use" feature for multiple site users of the Ecco Pro software.
