Floyd Elmore

Floyd Elmore (b. February 1, 1982) is an internationally recognized artist as well as the founder of Colosseum Fine Arts, Inc.
Biography
Elmore was born February 1, 1982 in Port Jervis, New York during a torrential flood that nearly caused the evacuation of the hospital while his mother was in labor.
Raised in rural New York, Elmore had no running water or electricity as the family was very poor. His father Roland, a local logging and land clearing contractor was a self employed man who spend a great many hours working to provide food and essentials to the family while young Floyd was raised by his mother. Elmore had from the very beginning had a very problematic stomach condition and his mother would relate stories to friends of his crying for the first three years of his life almost non-stop from the pain and discomfort.
Then in March 1984 his brother Roland was born. The two were to become inseparable until Elmore left for California to seek a degree in Electronics.
Elmore from the beginning was a resourceful and intellectual child. He read voraciously and was determined to test boundaries, both of which have continued to be major themes throughout his life.. At age ten, Elmore got a job working at a local convenience store assembling the New York Times so that he could afford small items of interest to him as the family at this time was still very poor. Elmore became involved with music as a child through his father who was an accomplished guitarist and would grow to play the Saxophone and guitar in High School.
Elmore discovered painting in his tenth grade year and also became heavily engrossed in Graphic Design. Painting would prove to become a driving force as he progressed through the next formidable years of his development. The major influences of this period of his life were Oskar Kokoschka, Salvador Dalí, Miro and his high school art teacher Bruce Bidwell. The profound affect that his educator had on him has been retold by Elmore since his leaving Eldred Central School.
After graduating high school, he traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area to pursue a degree in electronics. Upon graduating from Devry University in Fremont in 2001 with his associates degree in Electronics and Computer Technology he went to work at CoorsTek, a contract manufacturing firm working on the manufacturing of Invision brand bomb detection units. In 2003 he left CoorsTek and enrolled in classes at Diablo Valley Community College where he studied political science, history, computer information systems and was recruited to be on the school's speech and debate team. Elmore was on the five person speech and debate team that won the 2003 National Speech and Debate Championships in Los Angeles. After that semester Elmore chose to return to a field in technology and was able to secure employment with Sanmina-Sci, another large contract manufacturing firm. Elmore quickly became miserable, retreated more into classical literature art and worked heavily to resolve the deteriorating relationship he was involved in at the time with his high school sweetheart.
The paintings of this time period are characterized by a more unrefined and less analytical nature. The prominent work of this period was his largest painting to date "Memoirs Adorned With Passion" (oil on canvas: 48" X 96"). Other important works of the period were "The Apothesis Of Reason" (oil on canvas: 24" X 48") as well as "Perverse and Eccentric Individuality" (oil on canvas: 24" X 48"; Held in the Private Collection of Eugene Korsunsky, San Jose, CA).
After leaving Sanmina-Sci in search of greater life purpose he moved to Lake Tahoe, CA to pursue his art and re-evaluate his situation. Elmore read and painted heavily during this period and many consider that to be one of his most prolific artistic periods to date.
Elmore painted non-stop for two years but on April 20, 2006 the space heater in Elmore's art studio caught the building on fire. It is estimated by those close to him that Elmore lost between 60 - 100 works of fine art although the true number of lost works is not know due to his lack of properly documenting the collection combined with the limited access to the studio by anyone but a very close group of friends and family.
After the fire Elmore was forced into a self reflective period which produced intensive self evaluation which manifested itself in a period of great emotional and intellectual blooming. He read intensely and poured over the works of the great masters of philosophy and ancient classical literature. After a year of intense self reorientation Elmore decided that a move was in order as he had decided on a course of action that was to lead him into his greatest undertaking in art and business.
Elmore decided that he would move to San Diego and pursue his art once again. He was able to secure a job at one of the largest galleries in La Jolla and was rapidly promoted as a sales consultant and then into management. He poured through paint on the canvas at night and poured through learning the art world during the day. He painted a few very important pieces during this time and laid the foundation for Colosseum Fine Arts, Inc. The important works of this period were "The Speaking Of Past Spoke In Now Speak" (oil on canvas: 48" X 36"), "Subtlety In C Minor With A Pinch Of Spice" (oil on canvas: 48" X 24"), "Constellations In Conversation Address A Contemporary Pause" (oil on canvas: 24" X 36") and "Quantum Organi Chaotica" (oil on canvas: 24" X 36"). Elmore also began work on his largest canvas to date "The Master Conversationalist" (oil on canvas: 72" X 144").
