FindingDulcinea

findingDulcinea is a website designed to help people locate information on any given subject. Unlike most search engines, findingDulcinea does not use algorithms, instead it uses a group of 28+ researchers that review hundreds of URLs and present what they determine to be only the most relevant results. As a human powered research tool, findingDulcinea puts its results into an organized format, offering a narrated guide to hand-selected, credible websites with context and human insight on each recommended link. In early 2009, PC World named findingDulcinea one of the readers picks for sites that will matter in 2009 .
History
findingDulcinea was launched in November 2007 by Mark Moran, the company's founder. Moran previously worked for 9 years as EVP and General Counsel of 24/7 Real Media, a publicly traded Internet advertising company that was acquired by WPP Group in July, 2007. Using Dulcinea in the title for this website was inspired by classic novel, "Don Quixote" in which Dulcinea is a fictional character who remains elusive to Don Quixote, despite his quest to find this perfect woman.
findingDulcinea's site contains three different types of content including Web Guides, Beyond the Headlines and Netcetera. In addition it provides hourly updates on current news, Daily Dulcinea, which is a five minute video that discuses a feature story with insight from a findingDulcinea researcher, a blog, newsletter and a number of research results in foreign languages.
Contents
findingDulcinea Web Guides contain the final results of each human search. Each Web Guide contains a list of topics and subjects covered. Upon clicking on one of these topics, the searcher is led to a page with Dulcinea's Insights - an overview of the subject with helpful tips learned during research and Dulcinea's Picks - a list of relevant URLs with original content.

findingDulcinea Beyond the Headlines provides context to news stories with a range of annotated links including historical, academic and local perspectives.
findingDulcinea Netcetera features content on innovative people, diverse places and unique ideas. Included here are famous birthdays, On This Day in history articles and a number of human interest stories.
SweetSearch
In February 2009, findingDulcinea launched a search engine entitled SweetSearch. This engine is designed to be more selective and simplified, producing more relevant search results as opposed to the millions offered by other engines. SweetSearch uses Google's algorithm to search and suggest only Websites evaluated and approved by the team of Internet researchers.
