Ethical Ocean is an online marketplace for ethical products and services in North America. The company is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was incorporated in 2008 and launched its websites in 2010. At present, they list more than 2300 products on sale from 210 ethical vendors and producers. History Ethical Ocean was founded in 2008 by Chad Hamre, Jonathan Fishbein, Davin Lengyel, David Damberger, Tony Hancock, Lena Lam,and Mike Spendlove. The site was launched to the public April 22, 2010 Ethical Ocean was featured on CBC's Dragon's Den on March 30, 2011 where they reached an investment deal with Arlene Dickinson. Ethics Ethics are currently separated into six categories: Eco-Friendly, Organic, Fair Trade, Animal-Friendly, People-Friendly and Social Change. Rather than verifying the claims of each product, the website employs a crowd sourced model for verifying claims under the six ethical categories, and encourages rating and commenting of site users. Sellers Sellers pay a commission on each successful transaction on the site of 28%. See Also
