Ellen Bloomfield

Ellen Darlene Bloomfield was born Ellen Darlene Massey in Kenora, Ontario, on March 12, 1959. She attended Queen's University and studied to become a teacher, originally teaching English and Geography before Judith Hamilton, who was the drama teacher at the time, suggested that she try teaching a course in drama.
She has been teaching at Dryden High School in Dryden, Ontario, since 1987, having moved to the community in August of that year. She primarily teaches drama now, and is a major supporter of the arts in the community. She has done plenty of work with the community's theatre group, Theatre 17, and has supported a love of drama in many students. She has directed many shows for the high school's Dramatic Arts Association. The most recent and successful productions were Disney's High School Musical and the junior editions of Beauty and the Beast, with The Little Mermaid set to be performed this spring. One of her former students, Amy Maua, is one of many who has benefited from her wonderful teaching and has also been helping with the high school Drama Club in recent years.
As well as directing productions with DHS' Drama Club, she has also performed in several shows with Theatre 17, directed by Judith Hamilton, such as Quilters. The most recent show she appeared in was Calendar Girls in February 2014, where she did an excellent portrayal of Cora. The performance raised plenty of money for the community hospital. She has also performed in and directed The Vagina Monologues. Other performances include the narrator in a church group's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
She and Judith Hamilton have been very influential in supporting the arts and that side of Dryden's culture, and the community has certainly benefited from them.
She has been married to Warner Bloomfield since 1993 and has two children, Abigail and Elizabeth, all of whom share her love of drama.
