Dexter J. Singleton

Dexter J. Singleton is a theatre director from Detroit, Michigan.
Beginning
When in Detroit, Singleton first found an interest in professional theatre as a member of the world-renowned Mosaic Youth Theatre company of Detroit. He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in theatre performance and directing. He is the former artistic director of the critically acclaimed Kalamazoo Youth Theatre, a theatre program for youth ages 10-18. Singleton has worked throughout Michigan, Connecticut and New York designing arts programming for many schools and colleges. He has been seen in Much Ado About Nothing at the Long Wharf Theatre and as Banquo in Macbeth with Godlight Productions. Singleton recently completed a run with Elm Shakespeare Company’s production of The Taming of the Shrew as Biondello. For the past six years, he has directed a Summer Theater Workshop at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, a performing arts high school in Connecticut. As a director, he uses a no-nonsense, tough love attidude, but consistently prouduces fabulous work out of the students of the Academy. Other favorites include Zooman and the Sign, The River Niger, School for Scandal, Ten Little Indians and East Texas Hot Links.
