Drawn from Bees are an art rock band from Brisbane, Australia who commenced in 2008. The Band is composed of Dan James (lead vocals, guitar), Stew Riddle (vocals, bass guitar), Raven Jones (vocals, lead guitar, piano), Matt Wedmaier (vocals, drums). History Commencing mid-2008, Drawn from Bees released their first EP, The Boy & The Ocean, through Bonefinger Records, a local Brisbane indie-label. Their influences are drawn mostly from bands like Wagner and Bach to Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Crowded House and The Cure. Having invoked the curiosity of their audiences with their compelling live shows and a much loved storybook debut EP, The Boy and the Ocean, Drawn from Bees have effortlessly grown their audience by quietly winning people over, one show at a time, creating both a solid fan base and a substantial impact on the Australian art-rock music scene. Within weeks of their first release, The Boy And The Ocean, Drawn from Bees gained support from some independent radio stations around the country - most notably 3RRR, FBI, Triple Z, and Triple J who featured the song Picture Show, on Richard Kingsmill’s 2008 and reviewed as a song with a "guitar line in this hooks you in straight away". In late 2008, Drawn from Bees began piecing together a puzzle which could be described as a much more expansive, lush musical soundscape, developed by delving into rich Russian-chorale influenced vocal harmonies and melody-laden Australian art-rock from which they have self-produced a musical sojourn of 9 short stories. It is expected that the stories from their new release will be told as the band releases and tours their new album, And The Blind Shall Lead The Way, from March 2009. The Boy And The Ocean The EP, The Boy And The Ocean, tells a story about a young boy who is washed overboard and lost at sea in a storm, finally washing up on a desolate island. Each track takes you through a section of the tale, giving flavours of calm followed by fear, followed by abandonment, followed by false hope, which all tie into the main narrative.. The Boy And The Ocean is the sound of a confident band striving for a big statement, and generally succeeding. And The Blind Shall Lead The Way Mini Album, And The Blind Shall Lead The Way, due for release in March 2009.
