Devann Yao (born 1990) is an American professional Football player currently playing for Ipswich Town F.C. of the Football League Championship. Youth career Devann Yao was born in Harlem, New York to Ivorian and Italian parents. At the age of 9 he moved to Europe to pursue a career. His first youth experience began with France's FC Metz. He trained with Metz until the age of 13 where he cited a lack of playing time. Yao moved onto Italian side AS Livorno where he played with the reserve and youth squads. Yao left Livorno in another attempt to gain playing time. He sided with St. Mirren and played with their youth and reserve squads. Following an unsuccesful bid in breaking into the first team, Yao left St. Mirren to return home. He trialed with his hometown New York Red Bulls, no contract was offered however. Professional career Devann Yao was invited to play in an Ipswich Town's friendly versus Celtic in November 2009. He impressed in the game, scoring once and setting up another goal, and discussions with his agent (who is also his mother) were started regarding offering him a contract. As of January 2010 Ipswich Town were working through issues relating to compensation due to some of the clubs he had played for for as a youth player. On February 3, 2010, he signed a short-term contract until the end of the season.
