Derek Keeling

Derek Keeling (born c. 1981) is a Broadway performer who is best known as the third-place finisher in the reality casting show You're the One I Want for the 2007 Broadway Revival of Grease, for which he was nicknamed "Wholesome Danny." Previously, he led a national touring production of Grease, and originated the lead role in the musical revue All Shook Up on the West Coast.
In 2007, Keeling auditioned and won the role of Charles Darnay in the Broadway-bound musical . The show ran with mixed to positive reviews, and to sold out crowds, in Sarasota, FL at the Asolo Repetory Theatre from October to November. The show also starred James Stacy Barbour as Sydney Carton and Jessica Rush as Lucie Mannette. Keeling received good reviews, and was able to co-star with another Grease: YTOIW alumni Kevin Greene, who was featured as Gabelle. Ironically, the two had several scenes together.
'Tale' was announced for its Broadway premiere in March 2008, and Keeling was offered two roles: replacement to reality winner Max Crumm in the Grease revival, or originate the role of Charles on Broadway. Stating that he had always wanted to star in Grease on Broadway, Keeling began in the starring role of Danny on July 22, 2008. He was replaced in 'Tale' by Aaron Lazar. It appeared Keeling made the proper decision when Tale announced its closure for November 9. Grease closed on January 4, 2009.
Keeling is originally from Charleston, WV, and is currently living in New York City. He received his BA in Theatre from the University of Kentucky.
