Dennis Travale

Dennis Travale (born 1944) is the current elected mayor of Norfolk County, Ontario. He is also past/chair of the South Central Ontario Region (SCOR).
Travale grew up in the now-former township of Delhi and attended elementary school at Delhi Public School and high school at Delhi District Secondary School. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1963-1973 and then joined the federal public service, retiring as the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency's Executive Director of Security. He was defeated in the 2000 and 2003 Norfolk County municipal elections before being elected mayor in 2006. He is the second mayor of Norfolk County. In 2006 Travale was also appointed chair of the South Central Ontario Region (SCOR), a five-county economic development corporation consisting of Brant, Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford and Norfolk. In 2012, Travale stepped down as SCOR Chairman.
During his tenure, the amount of available drinking water throughout Norfolk County has become more plentiful and cleaner. Simcoe can now develop land for real estate after suspending all new housing developments for two years due to peak capacity and the recent Canadian economic crisis. Many roads have been installed with bike lanes during Travale's tenure as mayor.
During the 2000s, manufacturing jobs were shut down everywhere in Southern Ontario; especially in Norfolk County where small factories once were dominant in the southeastern end of Simcoe. Travale has attempted to diversify the economy of Norfolk County away from the dying manufacturing industry and into the high-tech and service industries that will provide jobs in the future. Agriculture, commerce and home building has risen in value for local employment opportunities.
