Rodolfo H. Manalo

Rodolfo "Rudy" H. Manalo is the current Mayor of the Municipality of San Juan, Batangas.
Biography
He was born to a simple family on August 6, 1954 in San Juan, Batangas. His parents are Marciano Reyes Manalo, a farmer from Brgy. Maraykit, San Juan, Batangas, and Fausta Hernandez Manalo, a simple housewife from Brgy. Cabay, Tiaong, Quezon. Rudy is the second child in a brood of eight.
He had his elementary education at San Juan Elementary School (West). At a very young age, he was already helping his parents in earning money for the family. When he was in his grade 3 level, he started accepting jobs such as market porter of charcoal (magbabalagwit / magbubuhat) from Cabay (Tiaong,Quezon) to the market. Before he finished his elementary education, he has learned how to buy chicken and other livestock and sell it at a higher price to the market goers, and a lot of certain works that would make him earn more. He had also worked at a store in public market as helper and after some time he had learned how to sell his own merchandise and garments. After elementary graduation, he had to stop studying in order to help his parents in farm works and to continue other small types of business that he had learned to run.
After three years, he was able to send himself to high school and went to Batangas Eastern Academy (now B.E.C.). During his high school days, he has learned the ways of business. He started buying palay and other merchandise to sell to his customers. He became successful on his own small way. It was during his 3rd year level when he fell in love with a lovely lady named Teresita C. Barrion, and later on they became a pair. They became classmates on their 4th year level and graduated high school on March 1974.
On May 25, 1974 Rudy & Tess got married at San Juan Nepomuceno Church, San Juan, Batangas. They were blessed with eight children: Mylene (Med. Tech & pharmacist) as the eldest, Marivic (Certified Public Accountant), Melvin (Mech. Engr. graduate), Mariel (Electronics Technology), Melson (Med, Tech graduate and licensed Doctor of Medicine), Marwel (Financial Accounting), Ma.Lourdes (Business Administration), and the youngest Melanie (Business Administration).
As the days past by, the couple continued their journey in life as a very industrious parents. In 1977, they had a partnership with Mrs. Mercedes De Villa in putting up a Ricemill at Brgy. Calicanto, San Juan, Batangas. Their share was Php100,000.00. It was in 1979 when Mrs. De Villa’s share was sold to them for full ownership. It was followed by a grocery store at Brgy. Poblacion on March 18, 1988 and later created a chain of ice plants in nearby towns. Because of their strong determination to improve their family’s living conditions and persistence to struggle in the business world with the help of their eight children and hardworking employees, they became successful as businessmen.
Hardwork, perseverance and faith in God became his guiding principles in life.
Political Life
It was in 1988 election when he decided to enter the world of politics in response to Former Mayor Abelardo De Villa’s request to run with him as his Vice Mayor under the Lakas-CMD Party. He became the Vice Mayor of San Juan, Batangas for 10 consecutive years (3 terms). He also became the President of the League of the Vice Mayors of Batangas Province, the President of Batangas Millers Group, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of Rotary Club of which he became a delegate in Canada. In 1998, he became the Municipal Mayor and had served his full three terms (9 years) as the Mayor of San Juan.
The developments of San Juan, Batangas can be attributed to him because of his advocacies in helping the town to improve and to become a modern and well-civilized place. He had focused on education and had helped in opening 6 more national high schools namely: Calubcub National High School, Tipas National High School, Don Leon Mercado Sr. Memorial National High School, Nagsaulay National High School, Sico National High School (of which the lot was donated by him), and Sampiro National High School. He had helped in transforming primary schools into elementary and initiated in the establishment of more elementary schools in the town of San Juan. He also conducted tree plantings, medical missions and job fairs during his term. He had also helped a lot of our fellowmen in electrification and water system in the remote areas of San Juan. He had promoted membership of SSS and Philhealth to his constituents. He helped our farmers by way of buying tractors for them to use in their farm works. He also gave scholarships to the indigents. During his term, his leadership was transparent to his municipality. He wanted the people to know where the municipal funds are being used. He was able to donate “Grader” for the opening and improvement of barangay roads and “Garbage Truck” for the town of San Juan to use. He helped our fish vendors by way of lending them municipal funds to use in their fish business. He had also helped in building Day care centers, Health Centers, nine presidential bridges and concreting provincial and national roads. He also initiated the project of the Pier Port in Brgy. Subukin, San Juan, Batangas. Another major project of his during his term was building a new Public Market, after a terrible fire in 2002. He was able to put up the two-storey building using the municipal funds and soliciting from our National Government Officials that gave the town grants that helped him in building a concrete & modern public market. During his term, he had helped San Juan to be transformed into 1st class municipality before the last year of his term. He also became PTCA Federation President (year 2007-2009).
Mayor Rodolfo Manalo is currently holding the position as Executive Vice President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Batangas Chapter.
He served as vice mayor from 1987-1998. From June 30, 1998 to June 30, 2007, he served as the mayor of San Juan, Batangas, and was re-elected on May 10, 2010 National Elections serving his second term. He took his office on June 30, 2010.
