David Hyner

David Peter Hyner David Peter Hyner (born 13 December, 1966) is a UK based professional public speaker who tours worldwide to encourage people to achieve their own 'massive' potential. Since becoming a motivational speaker in 2000, he has become a well known voice on radio, sparking a great deal of motivational debate.
Hyner writes and talks about two main areas of expertise, goal achievement and personal effectiveness, both of which form his "Massive goal principle: Why realistic and achievable goals do not work."
Hyner began his career after dedicating a number of years to interviewing people and researching the lives of those who had achieved extraordinary success in their chosen field. His research and evaluation led to the formation of his 'Massive goal principle.' David is deeply influenced by his family and the lives of athlete Kriss Akabusi MBE, whose quote, ‘top achievers should be looked into, not up to’ has been a source of inspiration, Ralph Gold, an entrepreneur and the Scout movement - that taught him about life, responsibility and leadership. Purpose, rather than religion or philosophy is Hyner’s driving force - helping him make decisions and avoid bad decisions.
In 1999, Hyner began fundraising for charity, the first event raised over £288,000 and in the following six years, Hyner held events that have raised over half a million pounds - breaking fundraising records. In 2004, David experienced a life-changing event that had profound effect on his work. Whilst working on a village project, he witnessed the death of a 9-year-old boy, who passed away because his family didn’t have 50p for a malaria jab. David has used this experience and turned into a force for positivity, coaching people to find their 'whys'.
Hyner delivers his researched based talks to schools, corporations, teams and leadership groups. In his many roles as a public speaking professional, writer, broadcaster and researcher, David weaves an element of fun into his work.
Since he began work as a professional speaker, Hyner's programs have reached over 250,000 people in 14 yrs.
Personal life
In 1994, Hyner married his current wife, Elizabeth Anne Hyner.
In 2006, Elizabeth had a son, George Hyner.
Born CofE.
Early life
David was born in Walsall, West Midlands, on 13 December, 1966, as David Peter Hyner, to parents Pauline and Brian Hyner. Engineer and business owner Brian and sugar craft expert Pauline, were already parents to Adrian and Jane.
Growing up in the 'black country' with older brother Adrian Hyner and older sister, Jane Green-Armytage, David didn't excel in school - something that played a strong role in his current work - and instead trained as a chef at Walsall College.
Career
David began his career working as a chef in the Scottish Highlands, working in the Inchbae Lodge from 1985 - 1987. In 1987 he formed, Hyners Catering and Event company, an events management and catering business in the West Midlands and spent 13 years building a highly successful business. In 2000, David sold the company and embarked on his current career path as a professional speaker.
In 1997, Hyner began conducting research into success as a hobby. With an interest in what made his rich clients so effective, Hyner began asking questions - later expanding to a questionnaire, telephone and face to face interviews. In his on-going research, David has interviewed achievers from all lines of work, including business, sports, science, entertainments. Early into his research, Hyner found that goal setting was the most common theme amongst all high achievers.
Inspired by both high achievers worldwide and the personal success he had experienced despite a lack of formal education, David wanted to pass this message on to business leaders and school pupils around the world. Hyner began with the aim to help students that were following the same path that he had once followed, showing that it is possible to achieve personal success, business success and other incredible things. After sharing his research and strategies with schools and young adults, Hyner found that leadership groups and corporate audiences’ sought him to deliver keynote speeches at their conferences and his career as a motivational speaker branched out in this direction.

Program
Hyner established the company, Stretch Development, in 2000 and through this and his personal website, offers a number of programs for individuals, schools and companies. His philosophy and mission is to enable people to achieve massive goals. Rather than providing all the answers and the stereotypical get rich quick money making scheme, Hyner gives people the tools to become successful in their professional and personal lives, whatever their goals or personal ambitions may be.
His programs range from 1-hour keynotes, 1 - 2 day training workshops, 5 day workshops and what he refers to as the 1-year mastermind program. Hyner's mission statement is simply, we give you the confidence to achieve your massive goals.
Key principles of Hyner's workshops and talks
1. Massive goals, because successful people do not set realistic and achievable goals.
2. Purpose, defining a “why” for what you do that empowers individuals and teams to have a purpose for their service that is bigger than their fear of failure.
3. Stress prevention, successful people prevent stress and others “manage” stress.
4. Presenting with impact, presentation skills for the courageous.
Hyner believes that presentation skills are essential and give a person the confidence to achieve their goals and ambitions, the certainty and conviction in their ability, an understanding of how to look into success, rather than idolise success and how to identity purpose and why they want to achieve.
Like most motivational speakers, David has key phrases that summarise his call to action workshops:
> Why realistic and achievable goals do not work!
"Are smart goals setting you up for mediocrity at best?"
> The richest person in the graveyard.
"Health wealth through stress prevention, because who on earth would want to manage stress when you can prevent it?
> Inside the minds of top achieversA fun and humourous snapshot of the best bits of 13 years of research into the thoughts and behaviours of top achievers.
The mastermind program
Hyner's mastermind program is based upon his much referenced research into the processes used by top industry and sporting achievers in reaching their 'massive' goals. The most extensive of all training offered, this program supports and holds those on the program accountable to timelined targets and key development tasks. The 1-year program is based upon the 'lunar society' - the polymaths and industrialists who started the industrial revolution. David asks those on the course to ask, 'If they can, why can't we?'
Other
Hyner's personal website asks that before presenting David is provided a list of items that includes the following:
A jug with 2 litres of still water in (no ice)

His personal website also notes that his mother says he is, "Probably the best speaker in the world."
