DaCast

DaCast Inc. is an online video platform that enables all businesses to broadcast video content and offer free or paid programming. Users have total control of their online video through a white label platform with many integrated features. Over 81,000 video producers used DaCast by the end of 2016.
Unlike consumer oriented platforms such as YouTube or Facebook Live, the DaCast service is business to business, offering a variety of data plans. The service differentiates itself by offering a white labelled product with integrated paywall, player, and other enhanced features, all in a Do It Yourself environment with 24x7 support.
DaCast is headquartered in San Francisco, California with locations in Paris, France and Manila, Philippines.
The platform was launched globally on October 26, 2010. DaCast users are located worldwide, with the exception of China and the countries specifically prohibited by the US Government and European Union.
History
The company was founded in 2008 by Stephane Roulland and Aldric Feuillebois. Initially the service was based on the multicast peer-to-peer (P2P) technology, with DaCast being the product name. The company was then called Andolis LLC.
This approach was abandoned in 2010 because of a significant decrease in the cost of data, removing the competitive advantage of P2P. In preparation for its official launch in 2010, the company adopted a traditional CDN type architecture and renamed itself as DaCast.
Services
DaCast is a self-service online video platform providing its unique Streaming as a Service. The platform enables users to broadcast live channels and events on the internet and to host and distribute on-demand videos globally. DaCast positions itself as a cloud based SaaS solution (software as a service) with Do It Yourself video management.
The platform also gives its users the tools to monetize their content. Several monetization models are supported including PPV, subscriptions, and advertisements in the media player
Technology
DaCast currently provides video and audio content distribution base on industry standard HTML5 or FLASH technologies.
DaCast HTML5 streaming supports delivery of both HLS and HDS formats while using low-cost RTMP stream ingest. This solution supports 99% of the video encoders being sold on the market today.
Users can stream video using the HTML5 and Adobe FLASH formats. DaCast supports various video file formats such as .MOV, .MP4, .MP3, .M4A or AAC and can transcode other formats to make them compatible with the service.
The platform supports the H.264 and X264 video compression standards which allow every user to stream high definition (HD) video.
Viewing
Videos and live streams hosted on the DaCast platform can be embedded and viewed on the broadcasters’ websites, on DaCast’s Viewer Portal, or on the Facebook and Twitter social media platforms.
Do it yourself (DIY) Streaming allows anyone willing to stream video to do so within a couple of minutes. It also includes a white-labelled media player which can easily be customized and a secured paywall for PPV and subscription monetization. All this can be done directly through the website without needing to get services provisioned by the company.
DaCast supports all major operating systems (OS), including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS & iOS and Android. DaCast can be used for both live and on-demand content.
