Cca.jpg The College of Commercial Arbitrators (“CCA” or “College”) is an organization of commercial arbitrators who provide meaningful professional contributions to the commercial arbitration profession, the public and to the businesses and lawyers who depend on commercial arbitration as a means of dispute resolution. History The College was incorporated in 2001, as a not for profit corporation formed under California law. The College has in excess of 240 Fellows who serve as commercial arbitrators throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and Hong Kong. Mission The Mission of the College is to: * Identify those individuals whose professional training and experience qualify them to undertake the most complex and difficult arbitration assignments. * Promote professionalism and high ethical practice in commercial arbitration * Adopt and maintain standards of conduct * Develop and promulgate recommended or so-called "best practices" materials * Provide peer training and professional development * Provide opportunities for interaction among peers * Promote diversity within commercial arbitration Fellowship in the College Fellowship in the College is by invitation of the Board. Commercial arbitrators who have been admitted to the College’s are called “Fellows” and must be invited to join by the nomination of existing Fellows. Once nominated, there is an extensive admission vetting process, which takes place once per year. Admission criteria include substantial experience as a commercial arbitrator, high ethical standards, and high regard in the field among academics, other neutrals, and counsel. The College aims to achieve a diverse, highly selective membership consisting primarily of commercial arbitrators and academics. A general description of the admission criteria may be found on the CCA website. The College holds an annual meeting each year for all of its Fellows. It also holds quarterly meetings of its Board of Directors and monthly meetings of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. The Chief Executive Officer of the College is the President. The College’s administrative offices are in Austin, Texas (USA). In addition to the annual meeting, the College holds a second in-person meeting each year during and at the location of the annual conference of the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution. Services The College is not an arbitration services provider or administrator, although many of its Fellows are associated with arbitration service providers and administrators. As a result, the Fellows of the College are available to be engaged as commercial arbitrators to resolve disputes directly or through many recognized arbitration serve providers including the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”), Internal Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (‘CPR Institute”), The International Centre for Dispute Resolution (“ICDR”), Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Service (“JAMS”) and others. Additionally, in order to promulgate recommended or so-called "best practices" and to maintain the high standards for commercial arbitrators, the College frequently cooperates with other organizations in the commercial arbitration field, such as the Section of Dispute Resolution of the American Bar Association, AAA, JAMS, CPR Institute, and the National Academy of Arbitrators. It is also in communication with other international, national and state based organizations that are concerned with the practice of commercial arbitration and also monitors legislation and judicial decisions bearing upon the commercial arbitration process.
