Circumplast Circumcision

The Circumplast® is a plastic device for ring circumcision of infants. It uses a ligature tie to crush the foreskin against a cylindrical ring. The tissue under the string becomes avascular and the ring separates naturally in approximately 7 days. It has a mechanism similar to the Plastibell device.
The Circumplast differs from the Plastibell by being cylindrical in shape rather than conical. The expected oedema of the penis after surgery is accommodated by the open end enabling it to expand into the cylinder with less chance of being caught beyond the ring. This compares favourably to the Plastibell, which has a narrow end , thus potentially having the extruded glans injured by the constricted opening.
The open end of the Circumplast facilitates management of operative bleeding, allowing easy access to the frenulum area for packing or application of cellulose fibre.
