Bonanza Express

Bonanza Express is a fast ferry, previously operated by shipping company Fred. Olsen Express between the Canary Islands, Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro in the Atlantic. It was delivered to Olsen in 1999. The ship was named after a famous rock on the Island of El Hierro called the Bonanza Rock. There are main decks on board plus for the passengers which can amount to a maximum of 755. The Bonanza Express was built by Incat in Australia. With a length of 96 metres,and a width of 26 metres. The normal service speed is 37.5 knots although she can reach up to 50 knots unloaded. It is powered by four Ruston Paxman Diesels 20RK270 engines, each with 7080 kW at 1030 rpm driven. The Bonanza Express ran aground in early December 2008. All 175 passengers were evacuated safely. (see Fred. Olsen Express accidents and incidents.) The ferry was sold to Euroferries in early 2009. Euroferries plan to use the ferry on a route from Ramsgate to Boulogne. |
