In the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, Blibdoolpoolp ( or ) is the deity worshipped by the kuo-toa race. She is also known as the "Sea Mother." Publication history Blibdoolpoolp was first fully described in Shrine of the Kuo-Toa (1978) by Gary Gygax, and subsequently appeared in the compilation volumes D1-2 Descent into the Depths of the Earth (1981), and Queen of the Spiders (1986). She was fully detailed in Deities and Demigods (1980). Blibdoolpoolp was detailed in the book Monster Mythology (1992), including details about her priesthood. Her role in the cosmology of the Planescape campaign setting was described in On Hallowed Ground (1996). Blibdoolpoolp was described briefly in Defenders of the Faith (2000). Her priesthood is detailed for 3rd edition in Complete Divine (2004). Blibdoolpoolp is mentioned in the Kuo-Toa entry of the Monster Manual of 5th edition. Description Blibdoolpoolp usually takes the form of a nude human female, with a lobster's head and claws in place of humanoid parts. At close range, her gaze causes insanity. Relationships Though the demon lord Dagon also has followers among the kuo-toa, Blibdoolpoolp's feelings on this are unknown. Realm Blibdoolpoolp's realm is called "The Murky Depths," and is located on the Elemental Plane of Water. Worshippers Blibdoolpoolp is worshipped chiefly by kuo-toa. It's been suggested that the froglike mother goddess worshiped by the grippli may be a more benign aspect of Blibdoolpoolp. Clergy Priests of the Sea Mother are called "whips" and wear pearl-colored vestments, shell helms, and drape themselves in nets as part of ceremonies. Holy days, temples, and rituals Blibdoolpoolp's holy day is the new moon, and rituals are held in underwater shrines. Gems, pearls, humans, and lobsters (her sacred animal) are sacrificed to her monthly.
