Bleckley Inn

The Bleckley Inn is a small 14 room, historic hotel in downtown Anderson, South Carolina. The building was the first building in the area with multiple stories, and an elevator, making it historically significant to the area
The Bleckley Inn was built in 1908, during one of the biggest economic booms that Anderson, South Carolina has ever seen. The location of the site for this building was known as Granite Row and it has recently been changed to Church Street. The original building was built by Sylvester Bleckley, a wealthy merchant, his son-in-law John E. Peoples, and J.J. Fretwell.
This particular building was called the Elizabeth Bleckley Building after Sylvester Bleckley's wife. Unfortunately, in the late 1970s during one of the largest fires that Anderson, South Carolina has ever faced; this building was destroyed. It was reconstructed using many of the same bricks and is currently being renovated. When this building is completed it will open as the only hotel in downtown Anderson.
People's statue can be seen a block away in the cemetery on the grounds of First Baptist Church of Anderson, South Carolina. The guest rooms have been named in honor of Bleckley, Fretwell and Peoples. These men were instrumental in the development of downtown Anderson at the turn of the century.
