James Goold Hall is the newer Halls of Residence at Strathclyde University. It has 8 floors and consists of 2 blocks. There are four flats on each level which each have six students living in them. Each student has their own small bedroom which has to double up as a study and, unlike some of the other Halls of Residence, each flat mate has their own ensuite shower room although to many it is considered a wet room.

Glasgow is home to a student population in excess of 168,000, the largest in Scotland and second largest in the United Kingdom.
The Halls at Strathclyde are situated on the John Anderson Campus which is in Glasgow's city centre. James Goold Halls are only a stone’s throw away from most of the lecture theatres which is very handy for students who are always running late.
Security
James Goold Hall is very secure as each resident has 3 keys which they need to use to access their flat and room. You may find the occasional homeless guy in your living room. The front door of the block has a security card swipe system. This gains students access only to the block, after this they need to use one of two keys to gain access to their flat and a further key to gain access to their room.

Further to this, there is a 24 hour monitored security system around the Halls of Residence which gives residents added peace of mind. If students have any problems then a trip to the village office, which is situated in the centre of the campus, should be able to solve any of these. There is also a night porter in the village office 7 days a week to deal with any urgent issues.
Living Area
The flat mates share a kitchen, dining and living room which is all open plan. The kitchen facilities are in excellent condition and there are many appliances included e.g. cooker, kettle, toaster and microwave (a student essential for all those microwavable meals!). The living area is a decent size and is consistent throughout each flat in James Goold Halls at Strathclyde University. Included in the living area are two couches, a coffee table and a television. There is a large circular table in each living space which is accompanied by enough chairs so that all the flat mates can sit down together at meal times. This area was designed so that flat mates would see each other as much as possible and interact, as this is a major part of university life.
Bedroom/Study
Each bedroom is decorated quite plainly with pastel pink walls and a green carpet. One major benefit of James Goold Halls is that all furniture has been fitted recently. In each room there is a single bed, a double wardrobe, a desk and a bedside cabinet. Further to this there is additional storage space under each bed in the way of two generally sized drawers. There is also shelving space on the walls.

Rooms do not have televisions in them although there is a connection point so if residents would like to provide their own. NOTE: If you plan on doing this, Residents must buy a TV license! There is also an internet connection point in each room which allows residents to connect to the internet. Connection to the internet is included in the student rent which is one of the major benefits of staying in the Halls of Residence.

The en suite shower room is very small but it has all the necessities for student living. In each, there is a sink, toilet and shower. It is a complete plastic room including ceiling so it does not matter if water goes everywhere.
Cost
The cost to stay in James Goold Halls at Strathclyde is £102.00 per week. This includes all bills paid for e.g. internet, heating and electric. For this residents also get a cleaner who cleans the shared area once a week. One potential downside is that cleaners do not clean residents shower rooms or bedrooms.
Additional information
Flats do not have their own washing machine or dryer although there are a few laundrettes which are on the John Anderson Campus and are open between 9.00am and 10.30pm. Unfortunately there is a small charge for using these facilities.
Strathclyde Student Union is the largest Union in Scotland and is situated within 10 minutes from the Halls of Residence on the John Anderson Campus. The facility is home to Strathclyde student association. The Students Union has 7 floors which include: bars, game zone, eating facilities and much more. The games zone facility has pool tables, slot machines and many arcade machines as well.
