103rd Series Apartment House

A Soviet-era series of standardized apartment houses found in Latvia. Construction began on this series in the early 70's, but projects were completed as late as the 1990s. These apartment buildings are built of bricks and concrete panels - the bearing walls are made of brick, which provides good thermal insulation. The remaining walls are made of concrete panels, which allows the home to be redesigned during the planning process; this was considered convenient and practical. These buildings are generally five stories, but exceptions exist in city centers, which also feature seven-and eight-story buildings. House of the said series are mainly found throughout Latvia. In Riga they are found primarily in the following areas: Teika, Darzciems, , Purvciems and Daugavgrīvas, although some are found in other districts. These buildings feature 1, 2, and 3-room apartments, which are 34 square metres, 51 square metres, and 66 square metres, respectively.
