Ben Day is a radio presenter working primarily in the Shropshire region. He has been heard on BBC Radio Shropshire, BBC Radio WM, Telford FM, The Wyre and 107.1 Rugby FM. Since 21 September 2007, Day has been the weekday Breakfast Show presenter on 106.5 The Severn, a radio station in Shrewsbury, taking over from Will Tudor. He had previously launched sister station, 107.1 The Severn, a station serving Oswestry and North Shropshire . From 28th January 2007 he took over the Sunday Breakfast show at 107.4 Telford FM from Paul Shuttleworth. As well as radio work, he has also provided voiceovers for NEXT Retail and Mitsubishi Motors.
The similarity of "B. Day" to the pronunciation of the word "Bidet" was the subject of a joke by Chris Moyles on Radio 1.
In a poll by Merry Media in May 2007, "Wake up with Ben Day" was voted 2nd most popular breakfast show in the Midlands, attracting 10% of the total votes cast.
Early life
Day was born in West Bromwich, West Midlands. He was educated at Adams' Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire. After leaving Sixth Form, Day pursued a career in retail, managing stores for NEXT and Gap Inc. Day maintained an interest in radio, and became involved in campaigning for the Shrewsbury & Oswestry radio license. He joined MNA Broadcasting in early June 2006.
Other activities
Day is involved in charity work around Oswestry and North Shropshire. In November 2006, Day ran the Oswestry Hope House Hospice 'Santa Run' in addition to providing the warm-up entertainment for the runners. On 16th March 2007, Day had his chest and legs waxed as part of Red Nose Day 2007. The waxing took place at the Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, Oswestry.. Day's other charity work includes comparing Oswestry's Cancer Research UK Relay For Life on Saturday 7th July 2007 and comparing West Felton Carnival on Sunday 15th July 2007.
