Barry H. Rodrigue is an interdisciplinary scientist who teaches Big History at the University of Southern Maine (USM). He worked in Alaska for twenty years as an ethnographer, journalist, labor organizer, field biologist and mariner. He returned to the university in 1990, where he received double Ph.D.s in geography and archeology/history, with specialization in ethnic studies. He has written numerous articles and books relating to human settlement in Alaska, the eastern borderlands of Canada and the United States, and Big History. His work also involves promotion of the peace process in Chechnya, as well as paleo-ethnic studies of the Caucasus. He currently serves as International Coordinator of the International Big History Association. He lives in Bath, Maine with his wife, Penelope Markle and son.
