Anton Tagliaferro

Anton Tagliaferro ( ; born 12 August 1959) is a Maltese born Australian Equities Fund Manager based in Sydney, Australia. He is the Director of Investment at Investors Mutual Limited. As of 31 December 2013, IML manages Australian equity portfolios, of over $4.5  Billion.
Early life
Tagliaferro was born in Malta; and attended , Birkirkara Malta. . In 1978, after completing his 'A' levels and due to political turmoil in Malta, he moved to London to continue his education.
Education
Between 1978 and 1981, he completed a Bachelors Degree in Accountancy with Honours from London Metropolitan University (formerly City of London Polytechnic). While in London, Tagliaferro joined accounting firm Deloitte's and qualified as a Chartered Accountant while working for them. In 1986 and after arriving in Sydney, He also attained the Diploma from the Securities Institute of Australia.
Career
In 1981, Tagliaferro commenced his professional career in finance with accounting firm Deloittes in London, as a trainee accountant, where he was also enrolled to undertake professional studies in accountancy - he subsequently gained the status of Chartered Accountant in 1983. Anton emigrated from London to Sydney in 1984, working initially as a Chartered Accountant. In 1988 he was appointed as the Portfolio Manager of Perpetual Industrial Share Fund and during his 4 years at Perpetual, the Fund outperformed significantly. During his time there, he was also instrumental in launching Perpetual's Industrial Share Fund to the public for the first time.
In 1992 Tagliaferro joined County Natwest Investment Management as Director Industrial Equities to later join BNP Investment Management as Equities Director in 1994. After 4 very successful years at BNP, Anton Tagliaferro decided to establish his own investment firm,Investors Mutual Limited (IML) in 1998, as a specialist Australian Equities fund manager. IML employs a conservative style of selecting stocks for its portfolios. IML manages Australian equity portfolios, of over $4.5 Billion, on behalf of a wide range of Australian investors and clients of financial planning groups.
Awards
*IML was awarded Fund Manager of the Year Award for Australian Equities from The Australian Fund Manager Association for the years 2002, 2003 and 2012.
*In 2003, IML won the first Rising Star Award, Money Management - an award which recognizes new and emerging fund managers across the Australian industry.
*In 2013, Anton Tagliaferro was listed in the BRW (formerly Business Review Weekly) Rich 200 List an Australian weekly business magazine published by the Fairfax Media group.
Involvement in professional football
*Tagliaferro is a keen Soccer fan and an avid supporter of the Italian football club, A.C. Milan. He is the owner of the AC Milan Soccer School Academy in Australia which caters for around 300 youngsters aged 7 to 16. The School is run by two full-time professional Italian coaches who played for AC Milan during their playing professional careers as well as many other coaches assisting.
*He is also the President and main sponsor of Premier Division club Balzan FC in Malta.
Philanthropy
Tagliaferro is actively involved in St. Lucy's School in Sydney - a specialist school for children with intellectual disabilities, where he has led the fund raising and investment committees since 2005.
