Anthony Angelone

Anthony James Angelone (born July 5, 1994) a student athlete who broke multiple records at West Orange High School. Anthony was active in several sports as he engaged in football in the fall, wrestling in the winter and lacrosse in the spring during his concluding two years of schooling.
Early years
Anthony began his love for sports at an early age, always active and full of energy. Anthony made his first appearance playing sports as he began engaging in flag football in second grade, where at such an early age he made a name for himself as "Angel One." Anthony continued playing sports in elementary school including, P.A.L. football, P.A.L. baseball, traveling baseball, R.E.C. street hockey, R.E.C. wrestling, R.E.C. basketball and bowling. In Junior High School Anthony continued playing sports and added to his busy schedule in seventh and eighth grade as he took on two more teams, as a wrestler in the winter and baseballer in the spring. In eighth grade Anthony was the captain for the R.E.C. and Junior High wrestling team, where he placed in a numerous amount of wrestling individual tournaments, traveling all over the United States to compete.
Anthony's love of sports started at such a young age with the support of a sports’ fanatic family, always cheering him on and giving him the extra boost he needed.
Anthony became extremely successful as a high school student where he was well known in the community for all of the extravagant things he had done on the field, on the mat and with all his hard work and dedication he put into the team and his team mates. Anthony had an astonishing high school career with multiple highlights, awards, placing and record breaking.
High School Career and Highlights
Freshmen year
His first year of high school in 2008 as a Freshmen Anthony took part on both the freshmen and Junior Varsity football teams. Anthony helped lead his teammates in a 9-0 undefeated freshmen championship team. Anthony started middle line back and left guard. Also during his freshman year he continued with his love for wrestling in the winter where he started at weight class one hundred seventy one on the Varsity team. Anthony place second in the County tournament as the ninth seat, second in the District tournament, and fourth in the Region tournament with a season record of twenty one wins and nine loses, also placing in several individual tournaments as well.
Sophomore year
Anthony continued with his athletics his sophomore year at West Orange High School in 2009 as he participated in football again in the fall, this time around starting defense linebacker on Varsity. Anthony made eighty six tackles in the season. In the winter Anthony started for the second time on Varsity wrestling, placing first in the Middle Town South Holiday tournament, third in the County tournament, second in the District tournament and third in the Region tournament. Anthony qualified in the High School State Tournament individually where he wrestled one and done. Anthony completed his sophomore year with a record of twenty eight wins and seven loses.
Junior year
Returning in the fall 2010 as a Junior Anthony started yet again Varsity football. Anthony started for the second time middle linebacker and first year starter left guard on offense, on the line as the only under classman. In the second week into the season Anthony made an interception at an away game vs. Union City. Anthony finished the year with a hundred and eight tackles, which he broke the school record for most tackles in one season. Anthony was named All State Junior Defense Player of the year and All County. Anthony took a rest from wrestling for a year but transitioned into a new sport as he played lacrosse in the spring. It was Anthony's first time ever playing lacrosse, still managing to play Varsity where he started at defense. Anthony made his first assist vs. Edison.
Senior year
Football
Anthony's last and final year, his senior year, in 2011 during the fall, he once again participated in Varsity football. Anthony was co captain and was positioned as a third year starter on defense and second year starter on offense. Anthony had an interception vs. West Side. He beat his own season record of a hundred and eight tackles breaking a hundred and seventeen tackles. Anthony also ended his career with a total of three hundred and eleven tackles, breaking the West Orange High School record of two hundred and fifty. West Orange Varsity team was named second team All State, first team All County, first team All Section and Anthony placed in the top one hundred in state. On October 28 and 30 Anthony was named weekend’s top performer in 2011. In the spring Anthony was nominated to play in the All Star Game East vs. West at Robeson Field in East Orange, New Jersey, where he participated and his team the East won.
Wrestling During the winter of 2012 Anthony stepped back onto the mat as he continued his position on Varsity as co captain of the wrestling team. Anthony took second time champion at Middle Town South Holiday tournament, second in Newark Academy tournament, second in the County tournament, first in the District tournament, second in the Region tournament; he qualified for the State Championship yet again in Atlantic City, where he placed fourth in state in his weight class of two hundred and twenty pounds. Anthony ended his season with thirty six wins and seven loses, and recording twenty eight pins, breaking the West Orange High School record for most pins in a season. Anthony completed his senior year North one, Group four, team state champion. Anthony had an eighty four career victory record in wrestling over the span of three years.
Lacrosse
Anthony finished out his senior year in the spring with lacrosse, where he was a second year starter on Varsity. Anthony then broke yet another West Orange High School record where he was the first defensive player to score a goal vs. Edison at Edison.
More accomplishments
Anthony was West Orange High School's male athlete of the year in 2012, where he was nominated and placed along with three other males and four females, picked from the entire high school. Anthony has been viewed in multiple headlines, whether in the local newspaper, Star Ledger and interviewed on TV 36, West Orange High School's news show.
Added in 2012 at West Orange High School hangs two banners in the gymnasium for football and wrestling All State, in which Anthony Angelone is the first and only person in West Orange High School to have two sports All State ever.
