Tyler John Matakevich (born December 22, 1992) is an American football linebacker for the Temple Owls football team. He was recruited out of St. Joseph High School in Connecticut after playing a season at Milford Academy. High school/Junior college Matakevich played at St. Joseph High School in Connecticut under coach Joe Della Vecchia. He was a four-year starter at both linebacker and running back. As a junior, Matakevich set the school record for most touchdowns in a game with five. Matakevich went on to win the 2010 Connecticut Post Male Athlete of the Year as St. Joe's went on to win the Class S State Finals. During his senior year, Matakevich led the team to a 10-2 record to eventually win another Class S state title. He was an honoree of the 2011 All-State Team. Matakevich went on to play a year of post-graduate football at Milford Academy in New York. He finished the season with a total of 49 tackles (29 solo, 20 assisted). After high school, Matakevich was ranked number 38 in the country by 247Sports. After his post-grad year, he was also ranked the number 10 recruit in the state of New York and the number 5 outside linebacker. College career Matakevich's freshman year was a breakout season. He was only given limited time his first game, and did not record a tackle in his first game. However, due to an injury, Matakevich got his first start on October 6, 2012 against South Florida. He recorded a team record 15 tackles, 12 solo and 3 assisted. He was then given a much more substantial amount of playing time, and his results only improved. Matakevich recorded 19 tackles in an overtime win against the UConn Huskies on October 13, 2012. Matakevich finished the season with 101 tackles, a 2012 team record. He subsequently received the 2012 Big East Rookie of the Year and made the 2012 Big East All-Conference Team at linebacker.
