The Amateur Ballplayers League (ABL) is an adult multi-sport league serving four (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic) counties in New Jersey. Overview The ABL organizes competitive and recreational seasons of play in the sports of softball, flag football, basketball, and soccer. The league also brands itself as heavily focusing on the social component of athletic competition by providing amenities such as in-depth online coverage and information along with gatherings and award parties. The ABL utilizes facilities including Mama Johnson Field, Stevens Institute of Technology, and JFK Stadium in Hoboken and the Civic Center in Wayne. History Formerly i9 Sports of Hudson/Bergen/Passaic, the organization was founded in 2003 in Hoboken. The first season featured over 50 teams before the company expanded in 2005 to offer basketball and flag football. The four-county league has had over 100,000 participants as annual membership reached approximately 3,500 in 2012.
