Action Tuam

Action Tuam was established as a non-profit organisation in 1990 to assist in creating employment for the people of North Galway, South Mayo and Roscommon. Action Tuam is registered in Ireland with the Government Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation - Companies Registration Office (CRO).
History
The origins of Action Tuam date back to the early 1980's and a Government decision to close the Greencore owned Tuam Sugar Factory. The sugar factory was a major source of employment in North Galway. The then Archbishop of Tuam, Joseph Cassidy convened a meeting to discuss the issue of unemployment, at which a task group wes formed.
The original enterprise centre was setup in 1992 at Tuam Business Park. It attracted several small business, including JFC Manufacturing setup by John Concannon, which is now a multi-national operation.
The centre was officially opened in March 1994 by the then Minister for Enterprise and Employment Mr. Ruairi Quinn, T.D..
In 2004 the group purchased the adjacent lands from the Industrial Development Authority with a view to building a modern technology centre.
The new Beechtree Business Park facility was constructed during 2010 / 2011 without the need for borrowings.

To launch the opening on the Beech Tree Business Park facility, Action Tuam ran a Business Competition in counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. A special Student Prize was on offer to third level entrepreneurs.
